Titanic Moment for Hats

This weekend's memorial events for the Tragedy of the sinking of the Titanic have viewed that event from every imaginable prospective.  I noticed that most video or photo reporting of the coverage featured those  present day participants  who were wearing hats.  Ladies in dark or black mourning dress hats with veils were shown in many shots.  Men with workers and dockmen's flatcaps of the era got special attention.  Of course, the tophats and fine felt dress hats of the 1st Class male passengers and their well dressed ladies in flowery wide-brims are an iconic image of the sailing of the unsinkable Titanic.  The imagery of the event will always include the wearing of hats by the passengers and those who awaited their safe arrival.

South Asia hat making dilema

The Chinese have industrialized to the extent that their labor force ,which we all know is huge, has through mass media become aware of the disparities in their wages and the top 10% of bosses [ the communist party] which is getting filthy rich.  The folks want to work in air-conditioned electronics factories.  They aren't satisfied with low wages weaving and sewing hats  for export, many of which end up in the USA. They want a decent wage too. The bosses hav moved factories to Vietnam and Cambodia.  Next will be Burma.  But these countries are waking up as well.  The hat makers are having difficulty in Vietnam and Cambodia  being able to produce a low cost good quality product.  Wage demandsfor better pay are causing pressure there as well.  It is surely going to mean increases in the cost of finished products of all types coming into our USA market in the near future, especially for good quality and good looking styles of hats.  That's why at the Hat Company we keep our feelers out for good deals on hats whever they come from so we can still offer our great collection at the lowest prices out there.  Thanks for staying with us.  Join us at: www.thehatcompany.blogspot.com.  Visit our web site at:

Hollywood and Hats

Is there any costume item that suggests the era of the film or the subject matter of the film than the hats worn by the actors.  Does a cop wear a hat?  Does a fireman wear a hat?  A mobster without a big brim fedora isn't quite as menacing.  Bogart without his fedora or John Wayne without his sweated out cavalry hat just would not be the iconic images etched into our minds. We have supplied  the movie industry with headwear for dozens of projects over the years.  Producers always need it yesterday.  Over night express delivery is the way they work.  The Hat Company has always delivered as ordered.  Crime and bad guy movies are our specialty for fedoras.  You have seen our hats in many cinematic pructions; some famous and some B-grade productions.  We enjoy working with the Hollywood guys and gals.

Cowboys and Hats

This week here in Las Vegas is the National Finals Rodeo.  For days on end we see the horse trailers moving on the Strip.  Felt cowboy hats are everywhere.  These guys like to drink beer and gamble.  They love Las Vegas because they can go 24 hours a day.  Once back in Wyoming or Montana nighttime comes quick this time of year.  The lights never go out in Las Vegas.  These cowboys all have a lady on their arm.  The ladies are nicely dressed in country-western casual.  They will wear knit hat styles to keep the hair-do in shape .Daytime everyone wears roper style shoes, but after 5 PM it's boots only. When the wind comes out of the south we can get a whiff of horse from the corrals 3 miles south at Jackie Gaughn's South Coast Casino.  There must be 200 horse stalls and several hundred cowboy horse trailers out back.  We're selling these folks all kinds of the new animal head style plush winter hats as family gifts as seen at our site www.thehatco.com.  After this week everyone heads back to the ranch to hunker down til spring.

Not quite Winter

You ,ight disagree with that statement if you live in the Great White North, but down here in Nevada it's still just chilly at night.  The big rush to winter hats has not started here3 as of yet.  It will not be long however.  Men are buying more cabby style and brim style hats than ever before.  I hear " I'm tired of ballcaps"  now more than I have ever heard that expression before.  Ladies want  warm beanie styles with color and feminine flairin all age groups.

Christmas budget hat buying

This year as those Christmas season shoppers who have a tighter budget go forth into their gift buying we see this trend:  Accessories,  Accessories,  Accessories.  Everone has their cold weather coats.  The gift giver is looking for a scarf or neck warmer for under the tree. Earmufffs fit everyone at a modest cost.  Warm gloves will always be appreciated.  Men and women will always use a warm beannie sometime during the winter as daily wear or a backup when caught out in a surprise winter blow.  Grat looking hats can be bought and given at a cost of under $10 at The hat Company. We have them on our website under the Winter Casual Category

Halloween Hats of 2011

For 2011 the tried and true costumes are in the forefront again.  Anything with a Village People theme gets good reviews.  Sailors, Police, Pilots, and Cowboys abound.  The girls look great in glamourous movie star outfits with tiaras, feathers, anything with glitter, and short skirts.  Nurses,  French maids,  andSexy school teachers are still in style.  Also kitty girs, lioness', and cheetahs will turn any guys head.
BUT,  you need the hat to make it happen and top it off.  See you in November for the fall issue.
